The area from Antonio Lopez's Perspective

The panoramic views of cities over long...

...periods by Antonio López began in around 1960. In this view, taken from a terrace on the calle Serrano, the picture also shows the lights of the view towards the west. The work has been studied extensively by critics and is notable for the absence of the hyperrealism present in later works. Much has been said about what López manages to capture in his views; about what is real and what is not. Pero a vista de calle recoge sobre todo, en la altura de Villanueva, el beso de los amantes, iluminado sobre un alto árbol, a una altura que solo López sabe si es demasiada.

But in its view of the street Villanueva, adjacent to calle Gil de Santivañes, the artist captures the kiss of two lovers in particular, just at the spot of Villanueva. Illuminated on top of a tall tree, only López really knows whether they are positioned too high or not.
